The eggs of the Malayan Eggfly ( Hypolimnas anomala anomala ) are laid in a large cluster (up to several hundreds) on the underside of a leaf of the host plant by the mother butterfly. The mother has the habit of standing guard over its eggs, and could stay in the sentry position for a very long period of time. The adult butterfly can be died in that position, “protecting” her eggs till her last breath.
